Natural teeth come in few color types and various shades. The color and brightness of teeth vary from one person to another because of genetics, oral care, diet, medicinal intake and other habits. A cosmetic dentist checks for the cause for discoloration and recommends the right treatment option based on the findings. Following are some of the common culprits that can make your teeth look dull.
A cosmetic dentist checks the teeth of patients and lets them know if tooth whitening is the right treatment. The brightness achievable through tooth whitening depends on various factors. It is important that patients take good care of teeth after the cosmetic procedure to ensure that the brightness remains long.
When you visit our dental office to get your teeth brightened, our dental team firstly performs comprehensive dental examination where we look for signs of dental infection. Problems like tooth decay may have to be treated before going ahead with tooth whitening to ensure that the teeth are safe. We take pictures of your teeth and gauge the color using a shade scale. The pictures help us in recording the improvement in smile after the treatment is complete.
Tooth whitening is a safe and effective procedure which can be completed in a single visit. Whitening agents which normally have hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are used to remove stain from enamel surface of the teeth. The whitening agents are capable of entering the porous enamel layer and undergoing oxidation to clear stain. As a result, after the completion of tooth whitening treatment, the teeth look brighter and more natural.
Our dentist starts the procedure by applying a protective gel over the gums of the patient. The whitening agent is applied over teeth surface carefully. A special light is then shined over the teeth to accelerate the process of oxidation. A single sitting may take about 20 minutes and two sittings may be recommended depending on the extent of discoloration of teeth. Patients can see the changes in smile once the procedure is complete. After completion of treatment our team guides patients on how to protect the teeth to ensure the brightness lasts longer.
Teeth whitening procedure removes the stains and the discolorations from the tooth surface and gives you a brighter smile.
Sensitivity from teeth whitening is always for short period after the procedure. It means if there is any sensitivity caused by the whitening, it goes away within one to two days after the treatment. However, if you feel sensitivity for more than usual time, it is recommended to talk to our dentist as soon as possible as there could be some other problem associated with it.
By taking a good home and professional care, teeth whitening will last for six months to two years. But you should avoid all foods and drinks which can cause staining so that you can preserve the results for long.
Yes, many studies have proven that teeth whitening is safe. You can protect your tooth enamel by using calcium sulfate and fluoride. But it is recommended that teeth bleaching or whitening products are administered by a professional dentist for home-use or performed in a dental office.
Teeth whitening have little or no effect on restorative materials or crowns. but it may temporarily reduce the bond strength between enamel and composite restorations. So it's better to check our dentist before beginning any course of teeth whitening.
Teeth Whitening is not permanent. Some people who don't avoid foods and beverages that cause staining may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month. But those people who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait 1 year or longer before another whitening treatment or touch-up.

Had a great visit today and got to know the people that work there. They made me feel comfortable as the change of ownership is taking place.

I am so impressed with the entire experience. From the friendly reminders, to entering the office, and especially the dentist! My previous dentist Stephen C Ott, DDS, was incredible. I had the benefits of his gift since 1971. I was worried about finding a new dentist. However, I was blessed to have Dr. Ott recommend his dentist: Dr. Lillian Stojic. I recommend her to all!!!

Dr. Lilliana and her staff make getting teeth cleaned and a cavity filled as good an experience as possible. They get the job done with minimal pain and discomfort.

I just had a visit to Dr. Stojic's office. My ten year old daughter had an infected tooth that had to be extracted. She was so nervous and scared at the possibility of an extraction. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by her office manager and then by her equally kind assistant who brought us back to her room...

Dr. Lilliana and her staff are not only effective and efficient, but they also remove my anxiety. When I had to have a root canal, I was nervous about the pain. I was given the choice of Nitrous oxide gas and that calmed me.

Dr. Stojic saw two of my children. The youngest was so comforted by her easygoing and confident demeanor that he was the quietest and most still 4 year old I've seen in a dentist chair! Our older son was very afraid of the dentist and has been to a couple other dentists who were unable to treat him because of his scared behavior. Dr. Stojic was very patient and helped him understand what she was doing at every step, which calmed him down so she was able to fill his cavities and even extract a tooth. We were thoroughly impressed with Dr. Stojic and her office and staff.
