When it comes to restoring a confident smile, dentures have long been a reliable solution for people facing tooth loss. Yet, despite their effectiveness, many patients hesitate because of the myths that surround them. These false beliefs frequently result in needless anxiety, perplexity, and lost chances for improved dental health. At our trusted dental office, we believe that accurate information empowers patients to make the right choices for their smiles.
In our previous blog, we discussed the top benefits of dentures that are designed to restore your smile. In this blog, we will go through the common misconceptions surrounding dentures and the reality behind them.
Dentures are surrounded by many misconceptions that prevent people from seeing their real benefits. Let’s uncover the truth behind six common myths and set the record straight.
Fact: One of the biggest worries patients have is whether dentures will be noticeable. The truth is, modern dentures are crafted with advanced materials that mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Since they are expertly crafted to match your gum line and facial characteristics, they are nearly identical to your natural teeth. With the skill of an experienced dentist, dentures today can restore not just your smile, but also your confidence in social and professional settings.
Fact: Adjusting to dentures indeed takes some time, but they are specifically designed to restore chewing ability. Most patients find that within a few weeks, they can comfortably enjoy a wide variety of foods again. Tips such as starting with softer foods, chewing slowly, and practicing patience can make the transition smoother. A caring general dentist in Sacramento can also make small adjustments if needed, ensuring your dentures fit properly so you can bite and chew without discomfort.
Fact: While dentures are often associated with seniors, people of all ages can benefit from them. Tooth loss can happen due to accidents, gum disease, or medical conditions—even for younger adults. Modern dentures are designed to meet the needs of different age groups, helping anyone restore a functional and beautiful smile. Whether you’re in your 30s or 70s, dentures can be a life-changing solution that improves both your oral health and self-esteem.
Fact: Dentures are durable, but they aren’t meant to last forever. Your jawbone and gums may alter over time, affecting their fit and perhaps causing pain or sliding. To keep dentures functioning properly, they should be checked regularly by a trusted dentist in Sacramento. With routine visits, adjustments, and good home care—like daily cleaning and proper storage—you can extend the life of your dentures and keep them looking and feeling great for years.
Fact: Properly fitted dentures are designed to sit comfortably on your gums without causing harm. Discomfort or irritation usually only happens when dentures are loose, poorly fitted, or not cared for correctly. With the right fit and regular dental care, dentures actually help protect your gums by evenly distributing the pressure of chewing. Maintaining good oral hygiene, such as cleaning your gums and soaking your dentures at night, also helps keep your mouth healthy.
Fact: Many people assume that dentures are out of reach financially, but they are often one of the most cost-effective solutions for replacing multiple missing teeth. Compared to other treatments like dental implants, dentures are typically more budget-friendly. Additionally, many practices that provide dentures in Sacramento offer flexible payment plans, making them accessible to more patients. When you consider the long-term benefits—improved confidence, better nutrition, and enhanced quality of life—dentures are truly a worthwhile investment.
Dentures have evolved far beyond the bulky, uncomfortable devices of the past. Today, they are comfortable, natural-looking, and customized to meet the needs of patients of all ages. By separating myths from facts, you can make confident decisions about your dental health without being held back by misinformation.

Had a great visit today and got to know the people that work there. They made me feel comfortable as the change of ownership is taking place.

I am so impressed with the entire experience. From the friendly reminders, to entering the office, and especially the dentist! My previous dentist Stephen C Ott, DDS, was incredible. I had the benefits of his gift since 1971. I was worried about finding a new dentist. However, I was blessed to have Dr. Ott recommend his dentist: Dr. Lillian Stojic. I recommend her to all!!!

I've been seeing dr stojic since I moved to town 18 years ago, my whole family has transitioned over there and I love the whole team! Keep up the great work!

Dr. Lilliana and her staff make getting teeth cleaned and a cavity filled as good an experience as possible. They get the job done with minimal pain and discomfort.

I just had a visit to Dr. Stojic's office. My ten year old daughter had an infected tooth that had to be extracted. She was so nervous and scared at the possibility of an extraction. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by her office manager and then by her equally kind assistant who brought us back to her room...

Dr. Lilliana and her staff are not only effective and efficient, but they also remove my anxiety. When I had to have a root canal, I was nervous about the pain. I was given the choice of Nitrous oxide gas and that calmed me.

Dr. Stojic saw two of my children. The youngest was so comforted by her easygoing and confident demeanor that he was the quietest and most still 4 year old I've seen in a dentist chair! Our older son was very afraid of the dentist and has been to a couple other dentists who were unable to treat him because of his scared behavior. Dr. Stojic was very patient and helped him understand what she was doing at every step, which calmed him down so she was able to fill his cavities and even extract a tooth. We were thoroughly impressed with Dr. Stojic and her office and staff.
